Fatherhood Reflections: “Well Pleased”
“And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; and behold, a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.'” (Matthew 3:16, 17 ESV)
Fathers need to be actively engaged in their children’s lives, such that at their baptism we are able to say that we are “well pleased” with our sons and daughters. If you are more often “ill pleased” with your children, look no further than the mirror to see who is responsible.
Repent of your fathering failures, look to the Trinity for a reliable model of fatherhood, and begin molding your children into well-pleasing Christ-followers. It is your privileged responsibility before God, family and community.
